First ever hammer sighting?

From the album Tomcat Prowl (1988) by that well known(*) Canadian band "Doug and the Slugs":

Spent a lot of time living like a king
Flying like an ace, waiting in the wings
Picking up the nines, smiling at the queens
Coming from behind, I was raking in the green
Hiding in the clubs
Stealing all the hearts
Never had enough
I was playing out a part
Then the hammer hit
Harder than before
You got me in a spin
I can't take it anymore

The song title is Climbing the Walls and with all the card references before the hammer mention, I think the case is indisputable!
